Title: The real winners of 2010: "The Party of Whatever Works"
Just recently in politics, the election results came in showing that there was a huge swing back toward the Republicans. The article discusses why we have such violent pendulum swings between parties. On average, the control changes every 2-6 years. If people feel that their lives are good and the nation seems to be doing well, they will stick with the party in power no matter what. If they start to feel like their lives are going downward, they will vote for the party out of power. This is the reason for these swings. After the Republican's were shoved out of power because of several "poor" decisions, Obama was put into office. Now, after Obama has been in power for a considerable amount of time, unemployment rates are still above 8%. Therefore, because people are unhappy, they will vote for the party out of power. (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/11/02/poll-closing-key-east-coast-races-balance-power-line/) "Riding a wave of voter frustration over the economy and the federal government itself, the Republican Party sailed into the majority in the House of Representatives Tuesday with victories projected to be on a scale not seen since the end of the New Deal. " This article agrees with my opinion that because there are problems in America right now, people voted for the out-of-power party.
Questions:
Would it be easier to try to keep one party in office?
Has it been enough time to have a switch in power?
Are the problems too big for the Republicans to fix and if they are not fixed will they be thrown out of power once again?
Vocab:
dubious-adj. doubtful
